CO2
Fractional laser skin resurfacing is an ultra-precise, powerful procedure that can help you transform your skin. CO2 treatments at our Portland-area office play an important role in helping our patients look their best, whether they choose to have it performed alone or as an enhancement to other procedures.
Dr. James Chan and Dr. Haena Kim, our double board-certified facial plastic surgeons, offer CO2 for Clackamas and Portland patients and those traveling from throughout Oregon and the West Coast.
Your CO2 Consultation
Our facial plastic surgeons strongly believe in the power of personalized treatment plans and a comprehensive, multi-modality approach. Laser skin resurfacing with CO2 is often central to this facial rejuvenation plan, and they frequently pair it with facial fat transfer to add soft, natural volume to glowing, clear skin.
Your consultation is an opportunity to discuss your aesthetic goals with Dr. Kim or Dr. Chan and explore how to achieve your desired look. For some patients, CO2 is used to complement the results of a facelift or eyelid surgery, while others use it as the first step in their medically supervised skincare program. Our surgeons discuss your goals and preferences, answer your questions, and design a skin resurfacing treatment plan just for you.
Am I a Good Candidate for CO2?
Laser skin resurfacing patients should be nonsmokers in general good health. While the procedure isn’t surgical, it does require some downtime. Patients should be prepared to commit to the recovery period and be willing to follow all post-treatment instructions.
In addition, it may take multiple sessions to achieve the desired results, with improvements in skin quality and texture appearing over time. The best candidates for CO2 are patient and willing to wait for their results.
What To Expect During Your Laser Skin Resurfacing
CO2 treatments involve the precise application of a laser to remove the damaged outer layers of the skin. It uses small columns of fractionated laser energy, allowing for targeted treatments that spare the surrounding healthy skin. This treatment mechanism stimulates new collagen and elastin production and promotes cell turnover for brighter, firmer, and more radiant skin over time.
CO2 is performed under local anesthesia and can help treat the following cosmetic concerns:
- Fine lines
- Acne scars
- Sun-damaged skin
- Age spots
- Warts
- Birthmarks
- Mild skin laxity
While CO2 sessions are generally quick, most patients benefit most from an initial series of treatments. Dr. Kim or Dr. Chan evaluates your unique case and determines how many sessions are necessary to achieve the desired result.
Recovery After CO2
Patients typically need a week of downtime after their CO2 treatment. The first 2 days are similar to a bad sunburn, with redness, swelling, and some throbbing and discomfort. Over the following days, your skin will begin to peel, revealing the fresh and healthy skin beneath.
We will provide detailed instructions about how to look after your skin and support its healing, including when you can wear makeup, what types of products you can use, and when you can go out into the sun.
