Rhinoplasty

As the focal point of your face, your nose plays an important role in your overall facial harmony. If your features appear out of balance or you don’t feel like you’re putting your best face forward, rhinoplasty at Portland’s Réviance® Plastic Surgery can shape the nose you desire.

Our double board-certified facial plastic surgeons, Dr. James Chan and Dr. Haena Kim, specialize in all forms of rhinoplasty, from cosmetic enhancements to structural and functional improvements. They are also experts in Asian and revision rhinoplasty, attracting patients from Clackamas, Portland, and throughout Oregon and the West Coast.

Your Rhinoplasty Consultation

Your consultation with one of our facial plastic surgeons is your opportunity to ask questions, explore your procedure options, and discuss your goals for the surgery. We use computer imaging to help you visualize your rhinoplasty results so you can see for yourself what a few subtle adjustments can do.

Dr. Kim and Dr. Chan elevate your rhinoplasty experience with a customized, multi-modality treatment plan personalized to your budget and goals. Some patients may opt to enhance their rhinoplasty results with laser skin resurfacing or chin implants. Others may prefer to brighten their eye area with eyelid surgery to complement their new nose. Our surgeons will work closely with you to design the right treatment plan for you.

Your Rhinoplasty Options

Our rhinoplasty patients enjoy a greater breadth of options than many plastic surgery practices offer. Depending on your needs, our facial plastic surgeons perform:

  • Aesthetic rhinoplasty: This surgery focuses on treating the cosmetic appearance of the nose, including the size, shape, and projection. As rhinoplasty experts, Dr. Chan and Dr. Kim ensure that form never comes at the expense of function.
  • Functional rhinoplasty: If you have breathing difficulties due to a deviated septum, nasal trauma, or other structural cause, this procedure helps restore your nose’s function. As this type of nose surgery is typically medically motivated, insurance may cover a portion of it.
  • Asian rhinoplasty: The best rhinoplasty surgeons adopt an individualized approach to each patient; as Asian noses tend to have distinct anatomical characteristics, we offer this specialized version of the rhinoplasty procedure.
  • Revision rhinoplasty: Patients who have had previous nose surgery at a different practice trust our skill and expertise to correct their original surgical results and deliver the nose they desire.

Am I a Good Candidate for Rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty patients should be healthy nonsmokers who are willing and able to commit to the surgical recovery period and follow all postoperative instructions. Teenagers considering rhinoplasty need to wait until their noses have finished growing—typically around age 14 for girls and age 16 for boys.

What To Expect During Your Rhinoplasty

We perform rhinoplasty on an outpatient basis, using either local or general anesthesia. Dr. Chan and Dr. Kim discuss your incision options and the techniques best suited to your case during your consultation so you know exactly what to expect.

Our surgeons use either a closed or open technique to make the desired changes, depending on your nasal anatomy and your goals for the operation. These small incisions (either hidden inside the nostrils or made along the strip of skin between them) will allow Dr. Kim and Dr. Chan to adjust:

  • Nose size
  • Nose width
  • Nasal profile
  • Tip of the nose
  • Large, wide, or upturned nostrils
  • Symmetry
  • Deviated septum

Following your procedure, we place a protective cast on your nose and send you home with detailed instructions for your recovery.

Revision Rhinoplasty

As mentioned earlier, Dr. Chan and Dr. Kim specialize in challenging revision rhinoplasty cases. Many plastic surgeons avoid these cases due to the added complexity that secondary procedures involve. In many cases, our surgeons use a cartilage graft or synthetic implant to help reinforce the structure and shape of the nose.

Our rhinoplasty experts evaluate your case and provide an honest assessment of what results are possible and how we can best achieve them. Dr. Kim and Dr. Chan carefully apply their skill and expertise to correct your initial surgical results and give you the look you’ve always wanted.

Please note that rhinoplasty results can take up to 12 months to finalize as the tissues heal and residual swelling diminishes. Dr. Kim and Dr. Chan advise most patients to wait at least a year before pursuing a follow-up surgical procedure.

Dr. Chan does the best rhinoplasty! I am so very happy with my nose. I have always wanted my nose to be smaller, and more petite and Dr. Chan helped me achieve that.”

Real Patient Review

Recovery After Rhinoplasty

Most patients need 7 to 10 days for their initial recovery. However, revision rhinoplasty patients may require longer, and individual healing rates vary. You need to wear your plastic cast for the first week; depending on the types of changes made during surgery, you may also have internal splints.

Swelling and bruising (including around the eyes) are common but fade after a few days. The final 5% to 10% of swelling may take several months to dissipate fully, but it won’t noticeably detract from your results. Our surgeons will advise when you can resume wearing glasses, applying makeup, or playing contact sports.

How Much Does Rhinoplasty Cost in Portland, OR?

The cost of your nose surgery depends on the complexity of the surgery, the techniques required, and the extent of the changes you would like to make. We provide you with a personalized quote during your consultation and discuss your financing options with you at that time.
