Facelift

If you want to age on your own terms, the facelift has long been the gold standard for taking years off your face and creating a refreshed and vibrant appearance. The traditional facelift targets sagging skin in the lower face and neck, and while it can successfully create more youthful contours, we demand more for our facelift patients.

As leaders in facial plastic surgery, our two double board-certified plastic surgeons have created a new standard for facial rejuvenation that comprehensively addresses facial aging. Learn why patients from Clackamas, Portland, and cities throughout Oregon and the West Coast have their facelifts performed at Réviance® Plastic Surgery and Aesthetic Center.

The Réviance Approach to Aging

We treat aging with a three-pronged approach that we customize to each patient’s lifestyle, budget, and needs.

Dr. Chan, performing a facial cosmetic procedure.
  1. Restore Youthful Contours
The first step is to address skin laxity and sagging in the face and neck. We personalize your facelift and use minimally invasive techniques for the most natural-looking results. The transformation is often profound, but the evidence of surgery is nearly nonexistent.
  2. Rejuvenate Aging Skin
Next, we target wrinkles, discoloration, and other cosmetic skin concerns. Using laser skin resurfacing and carefully selected, medical-grade skincare products, we enhance your surgical results with a smooth, even, radiant complexion.
  3. Replenish Lost Volume
Finally, we treat hollowing and volume loss with dermal fillers or fat transfer. Facelifts normally treat the lower third of the face. With this step, we can create an all-over improvement that blends seamlessly with the surgical enhancements.

Together, these steps produce reliably beautiful, natural-looking results that go above and beyond what surgery can accomplish on its own. This multi-modality approach lasts longer and looks better, too, as your refreshed skin and renewed contours will age in harmony with one another.

Your Facelift Options

Our surgeons perform several types of facelifts depending on what will give you the best result. Your age, degree of facial aging, and goals for the surgery will influence which facelift option is right for you.

  • Mini-facelift: This facelift technique targets the cheeks, jowls, and neck. The shorter incisions and reduced downtime associated with this procedure have earned it the nickname the “weekend facelift.”
  • Mid-facelift: If aging affects the region between the lower eyelid and the upper lip, a mid-facelift can restore a more youthful appearance and keep future jowling at bay.
  • SMAS facelift: This ‘standard’ facelift procedure addresses the lower third of the face and neck by treating skin laxity and tightening the underlying SMAS (superficial musculoaponeurotic system) layer.
  • Extended SMAS facelift: This procedure releases the SMAS layer for greater maneuverability of the fat pads and underlying tissues while reducing surface tension on the skin.
  • Deep plane facelift: This facelift often produces the most transformative results. It tightens and elevates the skin and SMAS together instead of separately, creating extremely natural-looking results that are never tight or pulled-looking. This technique also minimizes tension on the skin for longer-lasting results.

Patients who are experiencing mild signs of aging but who aren’t ready or able to commit to surgery may be interested in a nonsurgical alternative. The “liquid facelift” combines BOTOX® Cosmetic and dermal fillers like JUVÉDERM to smooth wrinkles and add volume throughout the face.

Am I a Good Candidate for a Facelift?

Facelift candidacy is less about how old you are and more about how healthy you are. If you are a healthy nonsmoker with no history of adverse reactions to anesthesia, you can likely move forward with surgery.

At your consultation, we will discuss your medical history and evaluate your face; if you are not a good candidate for the procedure, we will work with you to find a different solution to refresh your appearance.

What To Expect During Your Procedure

Your facelift is an outpatient procedure performed using local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia. Dr. Chan and Dr. Kim will use minimally invasive, short-scar techniques whenever possible to keep incisions and signs of surgery to a minimum.

The location of your incisions will depend on the type of facelift, but our surgeons take great care to be as discreet as possible. Dr. Chan or Dr. Kim will tighten the underlying tissue and muscles, trim away excess skin, and smooth out wrinkles and folds before meticulously closing the incisions with sutures.

Both surgeons place great emphasis on your safety and comfort throughout the procedure. If fat transfer is part of your treatment plan, they will collect and purify fat from another part of your body before injecting it into your face to restore volume.

Six years later and still gorgeous! Dr. Chan and team are fabulous! My aesthetician just exclaimed today about Dr. Chan’s incredible work. It was the best gift I ever gave myself! Finding the right doctor is hard and Dr. Chan is the doc to see!

Real Patient Testimonial

Recovery After a Facelift

Dr. Chan and Dr. Kim will provide detailed instructions to make your recovery process as short and smooth as possible. You can expect some bruising and swelling for the first couple of weeks, with residual swelling dissipating over several months.

Most patients feel well enough to return to work within 1 to 2 weeks and feel comfortable being seen in public at about 2 weeks after surgery. Your surgeon can advise you on when you can resume most routine activities.

How Much Does a Facelift Cost in Portland?

The cost of your facelift will be based on the techniques used and any additional procedures incorporated into your treatment plan. We offer financing options through CareCredit and can work with you to create a treatment plan that fits your budget.
